The Katama Necklace

Wide open beach, wide open shell. The Katama pairs a scallop shell found on the island of Martha's Vineyard with fine gold chains that spill right down its face, so the whole piece looks like a wave just rolled over it and left a little gold behind.

The shell fades from creamy ivory at the hinge into bands of lavender and soft storm gray at the rim, every ridge catching the light differently. The chain strands trail past the shell's edge at slightly uneven lengths, so they swing and shimmer when you move instead of sitting there looking polite. A dainty gold chain and lobster clasp keep the whole thing light enough to wear all day.

Wear it with a bare neckline and a tan, a white linen shirt unbuttoned one more than your mother would like, or a black slip dress when you want the shell to do the talking.
