The Houston Necklace

This shell came up almost black. The ribs hold a deep ink blue that only reads properly in daylight, warming to bronze along the ridges and lifting to pale cream at the hinge, and the surface has the soft matte wear of a shell that spent a long time getting turned over in the surf.

Two strands, worn together: a thin tan leather cord and a fine gold chain, so it layers itself without you having to own two necklaces. They sit at slightly different heights on the throat and the shell hangs where they meet, with a suede tassel falling below.

The easy one. Wear it with wet hair and a sweater in September.
